Hull WwTW Inlet Works Upgrade PEP

PROJECT BRIEF:
The project involves the construction of an extension to the existing inlet works on piled foundations, installation of new screens and associated equipment, installation of megawashers and associated equipment and construction of an additional works by-pass including connection into the existing works outfall culvert.

Scheme Details
The existing reinforced concrete structure has been extended sideways to the east and west. This has created more channels for the additional screens. A bypass channel has also been built to the west of the structure. Four coarse screens are to be installed on the upstream end of the inlet works. Two 6mm fine screens will deal with FFT, with 5 additional 6mm screens for storm flows. Launders and screw conveyors to six new magawasher units will convey the screenings, with screenings being discharged via compactors to skips. It is anticipated that the scheme will be complete in January 2008, however due to the phased nature of the works some benefits in plant operation should be seen from the autumn.
